Legislature creates two paramedic positions as officials discuss Woodhall 24/7 staffing

The Steuben County Legislature on June 22 approved Resolution 8 to create two CSEA grade J paramedic positions within the Office of Emergency Services. The measure, introduced by Horton and Thoo and seconded by Pelham, passed on a roll-call vote.
A legislator placed on the record that "these positions are to make it so we have full time over in ... Woodhall," saying the creation was intended to enable 24/7 coverage. A county staff member responded with operational detail: "Typically, that would be accomplished through overtime ... but those these 2 paramedics and the 2 EMTs that follow really are what would be kind of the minimal staffing to make Woodhall 24/7." The staff member also said floating staff would generally be covered by overtime if shortages occur. The legislature carried the resolution by roll call.
