Steuben County reallocates and accepts nearly $9.53 million for roads and bridges; $800,000 shifted from projects

The Steuben County Legislature on June 22 approved several resolutions moving and accepting state highway-related funds. Resolution 137-26 accepted rollover 2025–26 funds including CHIPS ($1,643,178.03), POP ($12,803.87), PaveNY ($47,446.10) and Extreme Winter Recovery ($853,307.06). Resolution 139-26 accepted 2026–27 allocations—CHIPS $7,000,093.61; POP $1,011,150.07; PaveNY $1,516,725.10; and Extreme Winter Recovery $988,567.50—totaling $9,527,968.78 that the Commissioner of Finance is authorized to appropriate to road improvement and bridge accounts.
Separately, Resolution 138-26 authorized the Commissioner of Finance to transfer $800,000 from specific 2026 road project budgets (Campbell Creek Rd $300,000; Burns Rd $225,000; Hammondsport–Wayne Rd $275,000) into the Road Improvement Unassigned account after the Public Works and Finance Committees recommended the move. The June 22 action also listed established budgets for several county roads and bridge projects and earmarked $1,000,000 for major equipment and $700,000 for surface treatments in the road budget.
The resolutions were adopted by roll call where noted; certified copies were forwarded to the Commissioner of Public Works and the Commissioner of Finance for implementation.
