Council approves five-year police CBA with pay and benefits changes, vote 7–0

Council voted to approve a memorandum dated Aug. 5, 2026, that outlines negotiated changes between the town and the McCandless Police Officers Association to be incorporated into a consolidated collective bargaining agreement for a five-year term from Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2031. The motion carried by voice vote, recorded as 7–0.
Staff highlighted key changes: a five-year term (instead of prior shorter terms); salary adjustments of 4% in each of the first two years and 3% in each of the final three years; an amended health-care offering that reduces the number of plan options in exchange for holding the town share at 11%; increased buyout/incentive for officers who decline town plans; sick time allowed in increments for scheduling; comp-time accrual increased from 40 to 60 hours to fit 12-hour shifts; longevity paid twice yearly; a return to a 1.25% uniform/equipment allowance; town-provided ballistic vests; and a pension buy-back provision aligned with Act 49 to aid lateral transfers and recruitment. Council thanked association representatives for their work on the contract.
