Board members used the meeting’s good-news segment to announce that Aberdeen coaches won statewide honors: Kim Zimmerman (girls golf coach of the year), Nat Osborne (middle school assistant coach of the year), Steph Daley (middle school assistant coach of the year) and Katie Anderson (boys athletic assistant coach of the year).
A coaches' representative, speaking on behalf of the group, thanked the board and administration and framed the awards as recognition of many people who support athletes. "We want our athletes to love their sport, but we also want them to learn how to work hard when things aren't easy," the presenter said, adding that coaching is about teaching perseverance and teamwork as much as winning.
The board praised the coaches and educators; the remarks were informational and no board action was required.
