Two Aberdeen teachers honored with Sertoma 'Service to Mankind' award for Number Ninjas program

The Aberdeen School Board on Aug. 10 heard that two district teachers received the Sertoma Club's Service to Mankind award for their Number Ninjas math program, which the club said gives students an outlet for math and supports extracurricular competition.
The Aberdeen School Board on Aug. 10 heard from Scott Nolder of the Sertoma Club, who presented the club’s Service to Mankind award to two teachers for their work leading the Number Ninjas math program. "It provides an opportunity, for the the kids in school to really have that outlet when it comes to math," Nolder said when introducing the program.
Board members and staff said the program began as a pilot and has grown into interschool competitions. One presenter credited Adam Buckhouse and Tiffany with helping launch the program and said the recent season added competitions with other area schools. The board thanked the teachers for their work and the Sertoma Club for recognizing the educators.
The recognition was presented during the meeting’s “good news” portion; no formal board action was required.
