Jail 'Next Steps' program reports growing need: 73 in treatment, 138 on wait list

“Right now, we have 73 in, incarcerated individuals in recovery programs at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. There's a waiting list of a 138 currently that we just don't have the staffing and manpower and space right now to integrate those programs yet,” Rhodes said. He described a recent case in which staff transported a jailed woman home to Florence and reconnected her with family and local police to ensure she had care and housing. Rhodes said the Next Steps team includes peer support specialists, counselors, corrections officers, medical staff, volunteers and more than 60 community service and faith-based partners.
