Horry County Council recognized several employees who have served the county for 30 years or more and singled out Jamie Norman, the director of finance, for a national award. Council members and staff praised Norman’s leadership of the county's finance team and described the honor as a distinction for the county.
A council member noted that Norman "was selected one of 50 nationwide" and that she is the first recipient from South Carolina. Norman accepted the recognition and thanked the administration, department heads, staff and her family: "To our administration, thank you for your guidance and trusting me to lead our amazing finance team," she said.
The meeting additionally recognized Steven Thompson for long service in the auditor’s office (joined August 1995) and Vanessa Bell for approximately 35 years of service, noting her role as a victim’s advocate in the solicitor’s office. The recognitions were presented as part of the meeting’s awards and did not carry a council vote affecting budgets or staffing in the transcript.
