The Sedan City Council on March 10 voted to advertise openings for a police chief and a police officer and set pay and residency expectations for the chief.
Crystal Wade, a council member, moved to "advertise for Chief of Police for City of Sedan starting base pay of $48,000 plus the standard benefit package to reside within 25 miles of Sedan." The motion was seconded by Wellington Butler and recorded as carried with "0 Nay to 4 Yay votes." The council earlier said "they would like to hire a police chief and police officer" and discussed applications, experience, salary, and mileage considerations for applicants.
The advertisement decision includes a residency radius for the chief post (25 miles from Sedan) and the $48,000 starting base pay with the standard benefits package. The council also discussed general expectations for applicants, including relevant experience and where candidates live. The motion to advertise the chief position was moved, seconded, and approved during the special meeting.
