Arcola engineer outlines lift station work, force main and wastewater expansion

Lawrence Turner of Kaluza Inc. briefed the council on multiple water and wastewater projects tied to recent storm impacts and anticipated growth. He said the City Hall lift station is nearly complete but will not be put into service until associated force-main construction is ready: "There is a lift station, and there's the line that goes out that's called the force main... they're getting ready to release that project when we start construction" (Lawrence Turner).
Turner described manhole-insert and elevation work to reduce inflow during storms, and reported start-up of an aeration basin that should bring the wastewater expansion online within roughly 30 days. He said a pending TCEQ draft permit would allow the plant to increase capacity (reported planning number up to $4,100,000 in project funding tied to a 450,000-gpd expansion funded by Fresh Water Supply District No. 1). Operations staff reported current plant sampling (dissolved oxygen 6.2, pH 6.7, ammonia below 0.1 and E. coli at 1.0) and flow accounting details for the June 20–July 19 billing period.
