Prosecutor warns of rising jury trials, lists homicide and involuntary-hospitalization cases

The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney told the committee it has seen an uptick in jury trials and major cases as it works down a backlog of authorized files.
"We have had an uptick in our jury trials," the office representative said, noting three charged individuals in homicide cases that remain pending and a separate delivery-of-controlled-substance-causing-death charge tied to two overdoses outside a motel. The office also told commissioners it reviewed 190 petitions for involuntary hospitalization for mental illness, a figure the presenter said exceeds neighboring counties.
Committee members had no further questions and voted unanimously to receive the report.
