Board approves $443,907.15 contract to pave Oak Street; cost to be repaid by eight lots over 15 years

The Sedgwick County Board of Bids and Contracts on May 29 approved a $443,907.15 contract with Pearson Construction LLC to pave 0.333 mile of Oak Street and complete related drainage work to serve eight residential lots in the 4 Oaks addition. Public Works presented an engineer's estimate of $652,078 and recommended the low bid from Pearson Construction.
"Recommend to accept the low bid from Pearson Construction LLC in the amount of $443,907.15," a Public Works representative said while presenting the Oak Street project. Lynn Packer, director of Public Works, clarified that the existing cul-de-sac is a gravel road and that the property owners petitioned the county for paving; the transcript records that owners will be assessed the cost of improvements equally per lot over a 15-year period through a special tax.
A board member moved to accept the bid; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call (the meeting record shows affirmative votes by Brandy Bailey, Bill DeBold and Rick Ganz). Staff will proceed with contract award and the special-assessment process required to collect the property-based repayment.
