Township says Strathmere beach replenishment ahead of schedule; Corps still holds beach control

Committee members said the dredge operations have advanced south from Whittier, with sand being discharged in front of Whittier and adjacent two-block closures for safety. Administrator Jim told the committee the projected completion moved up to Aug. 23–25, roughly three weeks earlier than anticipated at the prior meeting.
Mayor Corson noted that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers currently has custody of the beach and that township openings of new paths will occur as they are cleared and safe for public use. Officials asked residents to stay off dunes and respect snow-fence or orange-fencing measures while construction continues.
Why it matters: Earlier completion reduces the period of active construction and may shorten community disruption; Corps custody limits the township's ability to independently open portions of beach.
