The Sedgwick County Board of Bids and Contracts voted May 8 to accept Parks Motors' low bid of $191,720 to purchase four 0.75-ton 4x4 crew-cab long-bed trucks for use by Public Works and Fleet Management.
"These trucks are used by Public Works highway and traffic crews," said Bridal Rosencutter, purchasing, describing the vehicles' role towing work trailers, hauling skid steers and excavators and transporting tools, materials and employees. Staff told the board the vehicles being replaced are roughly 10 years old and have logged more than 160,000 miles, and could read 240,000 miles by the time replacements arrive.
A board member asked whether an apparent order cutoff date would prevent fulfillment; Bridal Rosencutter said she had spoken with the vendor, who assured the county the order can be filled. After that clarification a committee member moved to accept the bid and the board recorded ayes from Tim Myers, Philip DeVolt and Anna Meyerhoff Cole; the motion passed.
The purchase is intended to support highway and traffic crews' routine work, including traffic-control setup and creating safe work zones. No financing detail beyond the bid amount was specified in the meeting record.
