Ian Wade of the engineering division said the procurement was straightforward and that staff and park leadership reviewed multiple options. "We actually did work with our vendor and saw, 4 different playground equipment options, all of which were available through the Omnia, cooperative purchasing contract," Wade said, adding that staff and parks leadership identified preferred equipment, including colors and patterns. He noted that this agenda item covered only the equipment purchase; installation will be part of the forthcoming park renovation contract.
Aldermen asked whether the playground surface would be recycled material and whether the city maintains minimum standards for parks. Jason Bauer of the Department of Public Works said there is no single citywide standard for every park; site conditions and a needs assessment with the city's design consultant inform decisions. Bauer also noted that elements required by the OSLAD grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources must be included as part of the park work.
No recorded council vote on the equipment purchase appears in the transcript; staff said installation will be addressed in the separate park renovation contract that will come forward later.
