The Dayton City Parks Commission heard details on LC Stevens Park Phase 3 as staff outlined a plan to bid work on a stage area, concrete improvements and realignment of handicap-accessible pavement.
A staff member said the council "did approve going out to bid" for the stage and related concrete work and added, "I think the project cost was around 260,000." Staff described tradeoffs encountered in the design — whether to use handrails or a retaining wall to meet grade and accessibility requirements — and said the retaining wall proved the cheaper option.
Staff told commissioners the project team trimmed one phase of the 90% plans to accelerate the schedule and "we're still hoping to get a lot of the construction done this year." Commissioners asked for specific amenities: one commissioner asked when permanent bathrooms would be installed; staff said that decision will return to the council in September and that restroom planning is being coordinated with water-trail and splash-pad work.
The presentation included slides and a side elevation showing the band shell and amphitheater layout. Staff noted the chosen amphitheater is the curved wood design, selected in part for cost and appearance, and said the project will be advertised for bids once final specifications are posted.
