Barrington promotes Joel Salvato and Jim Goodwin; Assistant Chief Ed Hartman retires

Fire Chief (name not specified in the record) introduced Salvato, saying Salvato has been a "career member" of the Barrington Fire Department for more than 10 years, was promoted to lieutenant in 2023, and holds an associate's degree in emergency medicine from the College of DuPage and multiple certifications. The chief said Salvato will take on administrative duties including the role of department health and safety officer and praised his "character, work ethic and leadership ability." The chief also introduced Jim Goodwin, noting his start in 1999, service outside Barrington from 2014 to 2020 including as a battalion chief, and a bachelor's degree in aviation administration from Lewis University.
Family members of both promoted firefighters were invited forward for recognition. Bridal Secola, speaking earlier as a Lions Club representative, congratulated the firefighters and thanked village staff for support at community events. Trustees in attendance offered congratulations as part of routine remarks following the personnel announcements.
