Board declares emergency after Stagecoach flooding, approves Resolution 26

Lyon County officials declared an emergency July 2 after staff described a localized flooding event in Stagecoach and Hoye Canyon on June 19, 2026.
County Manager Andrew Haskin told commissioners the storm delivered "approximately two inches of rain in about forty-five minutes, causing twelve to eighteen inches of mud and rocks across roads;" he said roads crews worked late into the night and continued repairs. Emergency Management and Government Affairs Director Taylor Allison explained damage and why an emergency declaration is being considered.
The board approved Resolution 26 declaring an emergency for Lyon County due to flooding and mudslides. Commissioners directed staff to coordinate response and cleanup with appropriate agencies; a public commenter asked whether NDOT could be contacted to assist with silt cleanup.
