Commissioners approve interlocal agreement with Douglas County for temporary juvenile detention at $300 per day

Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Brian Kirkley explained Lyon County has rented six beds from Churchill County since 2010 and has been at contracted capacity since May 2026. With Churchill unable to extend capacity and overspill services previously provided free by Douglas and Carson counties, Douglas requested compensation. The Board approved an interlocal agreement for Douglas County to provide temporary juvenile detention services at $300 per day until June 30, 2027; the agreement may be renewed for successive one‑year periods.
Commissioner John Cassinelli moved to approve the interlocal agreement; Commissioner Robert Jacobson seconded and the motion carried 5-0. Kirkley noted ongoing work to identify a facility, including discussion of a secure wing in a multi‑use facility.
