The Green Bay Area Public School District Board of Education on Aug. 4 approved the employment of staff recommended by district administrators to fill vacancies before the start of the school year. The motion to approve the list passed with five votes in favor and one member marked not present at the vote.
The presiding officer opened the special meeting and introduced agenda item 2a, then a board member moved that “the employment of staff as presented be approved.” After roll-call voting by name, the clerk announced the motion carried with five yeses; the chair said the absent member would be marked as not present.
District staff provided a brief overview of the hires. “We have, a recommended hire for Lombardi Middle School 11 month associate principal, John Miller,” a staff member said, and added that the packet included roughly “12, 13” teacher recommendations to backfill vacancies created by resignations or retirements. The staff member said none of the hires were for newly created positions and thanked the board for meeting in August so schools could be fully staffed and new employees could attend orientation.
The board’s action was procedural: approval of the hires as presented in the agenda packet (the packet is on BoardDocs). The chair and clerk handled a brief technical issue for a member who could not complete voting; the district marked that member as not present and confirmed the entered votes.
Next steps: the approved hires will proceed through standard onboarding and personnel processes; staff did not specify individual start dates in the meeting record.
