Lyon County commissioners voted July 2 to approve NV Energy's Conditional Use Permit (PLZ-2026-024) for three 345-kV transmission lines, part of the Greenlink Nevada Transmission Project's common tie facilities.
Senior Planner Lisa Nash and NV Energy representatives presented the project scope, mapping, required local and federal permits and a recommended set of conditions. The proposed lines extend from the Walker River Substation in Mason Valley toward U.S. Highway 50 in Dayton and cover an estimated combined length of roughly 103 miles, affecting portions of 26 parcels across Mason Valley, Dayton, Silver Springs and Stagecoach.
During public comment several residents urged postponement or denial pending further studies. Comm. Robert Jacobson disclosed a family employment connection to NV Energy but characterized it as non-conflicting: "Comm. Jacobson stated his wife has worked for NV Energy for 38 years and is in no way tied to this project as she works in customer service, so he will be weighing in on this item as there is no conflict of interest." Based on staff findings and 15 recommended conditions, Comm. Jacobson moved to approve the CUP; Comm. Tammy Hendrix seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
The approval includes the conditions presented by staff; commissioners did not delay the vote. Several speakers requested additional studies and better public notice, which staff and the project team acknowledged as part of ongoing coordination.
