Residents raised concerns after the presentation. Leslie Sonn6, representing Citizens To Protect Smith Valley, said she appreciated the update but worried about regulatory implementation. Lori Harrington told the board she feared imminent displacement of herself and neighbors, citing an MRE LLC purchase of a nearby subdivision for $2.6 million. Other commenters warned that State Route 95A could not handle additional truck traffic and urged the company and county to consider recreational access over the hill.
Hudbay answered commissioner questions during the presentation; the company and commissioners discussed permitting, environmental monitoring and local economic effects. The company did not present a permit application for approval at this meeting; it announced community engagement opportunities and an open-house forum to take questions.
