"Last year, Texas House Bill 1481 passed... required districts to adopt and implement a policy prohibiting students from using personal communication devices on school property during the school day," the presenter said while explaining the new language. The update specifies that students who bring personal communication devices must have them turned off before entering the building and stored in their personal bag during the school day; campuses may designate alternate temporary secure storage for assessments.
Other clarifications included disciplinary language related to cheating on state assessments, e-cigarette possession and delivery, expulsion placement ranges, and ensuring coursework is provided to students assigned to in-school or out-of-school suspension. The district will post the updated code in English and Spanish on district and campus websites and make paper copies available at campuses.
