A Simple Gesture, a Greensboro-based nonprofit that coordinates local food donations and recovery, has delivered nearly 10 million child-sized meals over 11 years, city officials said on FYI Weekly.
"Finally today, a simple gesture closes in on sharing 10,000,000 child sized meals, marking 11 years of neighbors feeding neighbors in Guilford County," Rosemary Plyben announced. The broadcast described the organization's programs: door-to-door nonperishable collections, a food-recovery program rescuing surplus from grocery stores and restaurants, a school-based SHARE program that places refrigerators in public schools, and a Refugee Feeding Network that supplies culturally familiar foods.
The segment estimated the 10 million meals are valued at more than $14,800,000 and noted the network connects more than 59 partner pantries and nonprofits across Guilford County.
