Sedgwick County commissioners adopted a restructured solid‑waste fee schedule for 2026 on May 14, voting to implement tiered rates that county staff say will lower fees for many residential users.
Carly Sanchez of the budget office summarized the changes: the new residential structure creates three tiers and a base residential unit fee of $4 per dwelling; high‑density residential is $3.20 per unit and a high‑density additional‑use rate is $5. Nonresidential parcels were placed into tiers with rates of $25, $60, $100, $200 and $400 per parcel depending on waste generation characteristics. Sanchez said state law requires fee adoption by July 1 for a fee to take effect the following year and recommended adoption to allow incorporation into next year’s property tax bills. The resolution passed on a roll call vote.
