Sedgwick County previews website redesign; ADA score improves but benchmark remains

County IT staff presented a before‑and‑after preview of a new county website design and outlined an implementation timeline.
Matt Hare, the county IT lead on the project, said the design brings a new homepage hero video, bolder color palettes, card‑based layouts, improved events calendar styling and a more capable cascading menu for mobile and desktop. "One of the big things throughout the site is gonna be the menu system," Matt said, describing a deeper, more accessible navigation structure and a mobile view that preserves cascading levels.
Chantal Crossman, the county's web architect, detailed accessibility testing with Siteimprove: the site's score rose from 79.8 (pre‑Oct 2024) to 86.1 following iterative improvements; the government benchmark cited in the presentation is 87.6. Chantal said the audit began with 68 issues, 49 of which have been resolved, leaving 19 outstanding items for the final implementation.
Staff proposed a phased rollout with initial styling updates planned for the first half of June, further platform upgrades slated for the second half of 2025, and department‑level content cleanup and training afterward. The county confirmed it currently streams meetings via Granicus and to Facebook and YouTube and said it will announce the launch via county announcements and social media when the new site goes live.
