Council adopts $40 reinspection fee for building inspections

Jonesborough's council on second and final reading approved an ordinance amending the municipal code (Title 4, Chapter 1) to impose a $40 reinspection fee for building inspections. The measure, presented by the presiding chair, is aimed at discouraging contractors and property owners who repeatedly schedule inspections without being prepared.
The chair said the fee targets “serial offenders” who repeatedly fail to prepare for inspections. “And so this is meant to catch, not catch, clamp down on serial offenders and hopefully encourage people to have better practices,” the chair said during the public hearing. Alderman Nixon moved for approval; the motion was seconded and the recorder conducted a roll-call vote that approved the ordinance. The ordinance amends the local building code and will be incorporated into Title 4, Chapter 1 as presented.
