Tax collector reports 98.04% collection rate; board appoints and swears assistant tax assessor

Gregory W. West, Haywood County tax collector, presented the settlement of collections report for fiscal 2025–26 and asked the board to approve the report. West said the county's net levy was $51,214,385 and collections totaled $50,210,613 for a collection rate of 98.04%, leaving $1,003,771 uncollected; the board approved the settlement.
The board also approved the appointment of Levi Cullin as assistant tax assessor; Cullin and family were recognized in the courtroom and the clerk administered the oath of office during the meeting. Commissioners offered congratulations and the appointment was recorded.
