County reports 87 homes in mitigation pipeline after storms; 25 acquisitions approved

Assistant county manager for resiliency and recovery and recovery staff updated commissioners on mitigation work stemming from storm damage and mitigation acquisition efforts.
Recovery staff reported 87 homes currently in the acquisition pipeline, 11 elevation applications, 29 landslide applications, seven generator projects and five infrastructure projects. Of the acquisition projects, 25 have been approved and are moving toward purchase; staff said they expect the state to select a contractor to manage acquisitions, titles and surveys and that further approvals depend on state and FEMA review. "Mitigation itself is a state-centric program once we submit those packages to the state for their approval with FEMA," Garen Braddish said, stressing the county's role is to shepherd applicants through the process.
Commissioners asked about timelines and staffing; staff said they could not provide firm dates because approvals are at the state and FEMA level but expressed optimism about near-term movement on selected projects and reiterated efforts to keep affected homeowners informed.
