“With this meeting, the Onancock Planning Commission begins its work updating and revising the 2021 comprehensive plan following Virginia law,” Chair Casey Greer said in an opening statement, outlining required elements such as official maps, demographic analysis and a VDOT-required transportation plan. Greer said the commission expects the process to take about 12 months and emphasized the plan’s role as a policy document for long-range town decisions.
Greer told commissioners the plan should be concise and useful, recommending regular annual reviews once the plan is adopted. Commissioners agreed they need clearer goal-prioritization, better demographic data and implementation recommendations that link goals to actions. The chair asked members to prepare for a focused discussion of maps and to consider outreach options to broaden participation in the update.
