Recreation‑center feasibility study more than halfway complete, consultant says

Maggie, the consultant leading the recreation‑center feasibility study, told the Oak Harbor Parks & Recreation advisory group that the study is “more than 50% complete in terms of the project.” She told commissioners staff and consultants prioritized outreach, holding stakeholder meetings, pop‑ups, library events and middle‑school outreach to engage a broad cross‑section of residents.
Maggie said the study’s early data show community priorities: “Some of the high priority items are after school programs for youth, youth indoor sports leagues, classes, programs, adult fitness and wellness programs, and adult indoor sports leagues.” Web and social metrics cited during the presentation included about 36,000 visits to the city homepage and roughly 87,000 organic social‑media views from the study’s outreach to date. Consultants will score potential sites — Maggie listed Oak Harbor Elementary, Freedom Park and Fort Nugent — and are expected to return to the commission with conceptual layout options and a draft report in late September, followed by a final report.
