Greensboro City announced a program allowing motorists to pay parking fines by donating new school supplies or by donating to the ShiftEd teacher supply warehouse through Oct. 31, an agency official said. "Pay your parking ticket with school supplies," the official said, describing the return of the program.
Donations must be equal to or greater than the value of the ticket and donors should bring a receipt when dropping off supplies, the official said. Supplies or donations may be dropped off at GPD Headquarters, 100 East Police Plaza, or at Parking Enforcement, 300 South Swing Road, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The official directed people to shift-ed.org for more information about the teacher supply warehouse.
The program is framed as a way to support classroom needs while offering motorists an alternative to paying fines in cash. No formal vote or legislative action was announced; the announcement described an administrative program run by the city and ShiftEd.
