Avon Council approves bids for Traxler Family Arboretum pedestrian bridge

Avon City Council on July 13 unanimously approved Resolution No. R-12-26 to advertise for bids on the Traxler Family Arboretum pedestrian bridge and accepted a conceptual layout the Administration presented. The Council also voted to suspend the rules and act that evening, approving the resolution 7–0.
Mayor Bryan Jensen presented a conceptual plan by landscape architects MKSK that the Tree Commission reviewed; he described the plan as a framework for Phases 1 and 2, with the pedestrian bridge as the top priority followed by asphalt paths and an educational center and observation deck. Mayor Jensen and Council members discussed path materials and widths; he confirmed initial stone paths would be shown on the plan with a longer-term goal to make paths asphalt and indicated paths would be approximately 10 feet wide to accommodate emergency vehicles.
Council members raised connectivity and access questions: Council member Scott Radcliffe asked that connections to the adjacent school be integrated and urged treatment of an old vehicle entrance off Stoney Ridge Road to discourage vehicle access; Michelle Patton suggested a paved pathway linking the Educational Center and Outdoor Classroom. The administration said it would address those concerns as the project moves from concept to design.
