Service Director Joe Shaw told council the Maplewood Mini Park lease has been renewed repeatedly over the years and the current proposal would extend use for five years with an option for one additional year, giving the city up to six years on the parcel. Shaw said the owner requested advance notice of civic concerts in the nearby Redbird District and asked the city to cover property taxes for the small parcel; the city tied tax coverage to the actual tax cost rather than a fixed amount.
Lindsay Stowe introduced Ordinance 103-2026 by title and moved its passage as an emergency measure; council approved the ordinance by voice vote. The mayor thanked the funeral home for offering the lease and noted the shorter term reflects an intent to revisit the arrangement after the improvement work planned in the area.
