DPW reports 200+ service requests after July storms; limited tree removals

Chief of Operations Vanessa Valadares said cleanup after the July storms accounted for most of the activity; the department removed about 20 trees from city right-of-way and three from private property during July. She said the city's drainage investments earlier this year were tested by the storms and that some areas that previously flooded saw less impact this month.
Valadares explained the department's approach for potentially hazardous private trees: property owners receive a letter asking them to take corrective action; if a hazard involves multiple private properties it becomes a civil matter between owners. Committee members thanked staff for the rapid response.
