Chief of Operations Vanessa Valadares said the department is trading in the oldest loader in the fleet, a 2011 machine with more than 200,000 hours that is already on its second engine. "So we believe that is very due, to be replaced," she said, describing the purchase as part of the approved capital improvement fleet plan.
Committee members asked how the loaders are deployed — one at the yard-waste pit and one at the salt shed — and staff explained how machines rotate between winter salt operations and construction duties.
