Resident praises new Kendall sidewalks but urges better signage and communication

A Norwalk City resident told the Public Works Committee that while she welcomes the new sidewalks near Kendall School, the construction has been disruptive and potentially hazardous for neighbors.
"It's been much needed for a long time," Audrey Kozarin said, but added that the work has stretched into a fourth week and left large gaps motorists must drive up onto and down from. She described makeshift plywood 'bump' signs with hand-painted lettering that are hard to see and said residents lacked clear guidance about which way they could turn when leaving the neighborhood. "So it was very difficult to...drive, leaving Kendall Court," she said.
The committee acknowledged Kozarin's concerns and said staff would follow up. Chair asked for clarification about who the contractor is and how project notices are being distributed. Committee members and staff discussed temporary options for smoothing transitions at paved-to-unpaved interfaces and increased warning signage to reduce vehicle damage and pedestrian risk.
The comment came during the meeting's public participation period and did not result in formal action. Staff noted they will consult the project manager about temporary ramps or improved signage and see what requirements the contract already includes.
