The Pine County Board of Commissioners opened its Jan. 6 organizational meeting by electing a new leadership team for 2026. Commissioner Josh Moore was nominated and elected board chair by roll call (four ayes, one nay); Roger Nelson was subsequently elected vice chair, with the vote recorded as unanimous.
The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m. and included the pledge of allegiance, a roll call of commissioners and a formal vote to adopt an amended agenda. Administrator/staff introduced two agenda additions — a discussion of a two‑month hiring pause (which expired Dec. 31, 2025) and a proposal for board operating guidance — and the board approved the amended agenda by roll call.
"Congratulations, commissioner Moore," the administrator said after the chair vote; Moore replied, "Well, thank you." The meeting then moved into public forum and the regular business items of the organizational meeting.
