Commission approves $800,000 addition to builder-buyer housing incentive program

County staff asked the commission to continue the builder-buyer housing incentive program and to fund it with an $800,000 contribution from the CREW housing fund through the end of next year.
"We started with 1,300,000 first come, first served basis," Lindsay (county staff) said, and after today's approvals "we're down to a little over $50,000." She recommended adding $800,000 and instituting a firm project sales price cap of $600,000 to simplify administration. The program has been in place since last April and staff reported positive feedback from builders, bankers and buyers.
A commissioner moved to approve the additional funding and the updated price limit; the board seconded the motion and approved it by roll call. Staff said the change aims to grow single-family inventory and make program eligibility easier to understand.
