The Norwalk Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously Aug. 5 to approve a coastal site plan and associated actions for a proposed elevated boardwalk on town‑owned land at 20 Hendricks Ave.
Emily Wechtman, the client representative from Wesson Sampson presenting on behalf of the Norwalk Redevelopment Agency, described the project as “a 950 foot long elevated boardwalk that would be approximately 12 feet wide” located primarily at elevation 9 to bridge dense vegetation and tie into existing boardwalk segments to the north and south. She said the team has submitted permit applications to Connecticut DEEP and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is working through local permitting requirements.
Commissioners expressed support for advancing the Harbor Loop Trail connection, asked procedural questions and then moved to approve the required 8/24 action and the coastal site plan portion separately as recommended by staff. Staff asked for two motions so the record would reflect the separate procedural steps; the commission approved both motions by voice roll call.
The applicant also described planned improvements to four existing outfalls and erosion/sedimentation controls to meet current guidelines. The commission did not attach additional substantive conditions during the vote; staff will finalize the resolution language for the file.
