City staff presented a lease-purchase financing agreement with Motorola Solutions Credit Company, LLC for $912,000 to replace the city's first-responder radios so they remain compatible with county dispatch upgrades.
City Manager Jeremiah Glisson said the purchase is fully budgeted within the appropriate fund and will replace approximately 80 radios. Staff explained the communications center operates at the county level and the municipality must upgrade radios to maintain interoperability; the commission approved the lease-purchase financing on a unanimous roll call vote.
Commissioners thanked the department chiefs for attending and emphasized the public-safety importance of modern, interoperable communications equipment.
