CFO: county finances trending near budget, public-safety revenue projected above $41M for 2027

Nikki Simmons, chief financial officer, presented the county’s June 2026 fiscal snapshot, reporting that unrestricted general-fund revenues are trending near 103% of budget and that sales-and-use-tax collections through May are slightly ahead of expectations. She said interest revenues are slightly below budget and that the road-and-bridge fund is seeing lower highway-user-tax receipts based on revised state estimates.
Simmons also addressed human-services and TANF reserves covering a child-welfare overspend and noted that the county’s 2027 preliminary forecast currently factors in a projected public safety tax revenue just above $41 million. On specific items, she said personnel is trending at about 93% of budget and that special funds such as the household hazardous-waste fund and conservation trust fund have modest year-to-date activity.
