Resident urges moratorium on data‑center approvals while standards are developed

During public comment Laura Redwick of North County Road 600 East urged the commission to impose a moratorium on new data‑center applications until the planning committee finalized standards, arguing a moratorium would have prevented the repeated back‑and‑forth between boards. "A moratorium is not saying yes, and it's not saying no. It's just saying no to anybody coming in to put up a data center until we make our plan," Redwick said.
Staff responded that the committee had discussed a moratorium but moved forward with a recommendation that would require future proposals to go through the BZA as special exceptions or use variances while standards are drafted. The public comment prompted follow-up questions about whether the comprehensive plan explicitly addresses data processing; staff said the comprehensive plan is generalized and has not been updated since 2016.
