Superintendent previews RPS 2030 calendar, seeks board feedback ahead of October strategic plan approval

Superintendent Kent Pickell presented a high‑level draft annual board calendar intended to organize board workflow around the proposed RPS 2030 strategic plan. He described a governance cadence that alternates deep dives into the district’s core improvement systems, change projects and school improvement plans, with scheduled performance updates tied to the calendar of external data releases.

Pickell said the calendar was designed to make room for performance reporting when state and national measures are released: MCA reading and math reporting in early fall, ACT results in November, and post‑secondary enrollment reporting in February. He said the board will receive a full calendar at the Aug. 18 meeting and that the strategic plan is expected to come for approval in October.

Board members generally endorsed the approach and asked clarifying questions about naming and timing (for example, how to label post‑secondary enrollment more clearly). Director Wertner praised the draft as well thought out and noted it’s still a draft that can change during the year. Pickell and staff noted the calendar will remain adaptable to unexpected state policy changes or community events.
