Council gives verbal 10-year lease commitment to Bear River Archers, after amendment fails

Representatives of the Bear River Archery Club requested a grant for building improvements and asked for assurance that their lease could be extended for at least ten years to support the application. A motion by Councilmember Todd Thomas to amend the current lease with a ten-year extension failed for lack of a second.
Councilmember Chris Larsen then moved and Councilmember Brent Dodge seconded a motion to verbally commit to extending the lease for an additional ten years after the current lease expires in November 2027, subject to terms to be negotiated later; the council approved the verbal commitment unanimously. The council did not adopt final lease language at the Oct. 13 meeting and said any negotiated terms would return for formal approval.
