Lieutenant Scott Royer presented a proposal to start an Honorary Police Officer program in which the police department would annually select a youth, swear them in at a council meeting, present a plaque and host a follow-up event with officers. Royer described the plan and council approved the department moving forward.
Royer additionally asked that the department be allowed to advertise and begin the hiring process for a new police officer. Council moved and seconded a direction for the police to proceed with notification and posting for recruitment; that action also received unanimous approval. Royer framed the program as a community-engagement effort to build relationships between youth and the department.
