Preston gets fiber rollout update; governor to host "Capital for a Day" Oct. 29

Mayor Dan Keller opened the Oct. 13 Preston City Council meeting and announced that Governor Brad Little will designate Preston as "Capital for a Day" on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, with public sessions at the Worm Creek Opera House.
Councilmember Chris Larsen provided an update on local broadband deployment from Xfinity/Comcast, saying, "The eastern and southern parts of Preston are expected to be available for service by the end of the year." Larsen also said the northern portion is expected to come online next spring. The mayor and council framed the governor's visit as an opportunity for residents to raise issues directly with state officials, including representatives from transportation, commerce, and health agencies.
The announcement preceded routine business on the consent calendar; city staff said the governor's team and municipal staff will coordinate event logistics and public outreach.
