Board approves consent calendar including college-board contract, grants and service agreements

At its Aug. 5 meeting the Waterbury Board of Education approved consent calendar items covering a UConn student-teacher affiliation, a Home Builders Institute licensing agreement, a College Board PSAT contract (not to exceed $51,364.70), special-education and transition program agreements, and architecture and construction contracts.
The Waterbury Board of Education approved the consent calendar covering items 4.1–4.7, consolidating several contracts, grants and service agreements into a single vote.
Items included a revised student-teacher affiliation agreement with the University of Connecticut (the revised agreement allows the district to host up to 10 student teachers), a no-cost licensing agreement with the Home Builders Institute to provide pre-apprenticeship construction curriculum for multiple high schools, and a College Board contract to administer PSAT assessments in grades 9 and 10 for 2026–27 that will not exceed $51,364.70 paid from the Alliance grant. The board also approved a three-year agreement with Intensive Education Academy for out-of-district special-education placement (total three-year cost $539,832.45), a memorandum of understanding with Connecticut State Community College, Naugatuck Valley for classroom space for transition programs ($14,350 for one year), architectural and engineering design services for Roberto Clemente School (architect contract $1,023,155 with state grant reimbursement and city bond portions), and an amendment to the Connecticut RISE Network agreement increasing the contract by $47,500 to $217,100.
Board members approved the consent items by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Several presenters answered clarifying questions during the workshop discussion prior to the consent vote.
