Board names Marcy Pokajinski vice principal at Duggan Elementary

The Waterbury Board of Education approved the appointment of Marcy Pokajinski as elementary vice principal at Duggan School, effective Aug. 11, 2026. Commissioner Ireland moved the appointment and the board approved it by voice vote.
Dr. Darren Schwartz described Pokajinski's more than 28 years in the district, citing roles as a science teacher, teaching vice principal and program coordinator and said she had led initiatives to improve instruction and school climate. In acceptance remarks, Pokajinski noted she attended Waterbury Public Schools and said she was "humbled" to return to serve the community where she was educated.
The appointment was presented as part of the personnel committee action; the board recorded no opposing votes.
