Sheila Cokie, vice chair of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, told commissioners she supported naming the park for Henson but objected to what she described as circumventing the committee’s formal naming process: "We did not go through the appropriate naming process," she said. Commissioner discussion reflected pride in Henson’s accomplishment and concern about precedent; the motion passed on roll call 3–2.
