Lincoln High FCCLA students describe D.C. trip, earn national finalist nod

Kaylee Slope, family and consumer sciences teacher and FCCLA adviser, introduced three students who described museum visits, a Capitol Hill rally and hands‑on competitions. “We are in 4th place overall, making us national finalist, and we received gold for the quality of our star project,” one student told the board, reporting the chapter’s national results. Slope also noted two Lincoln alumni who competed in postsecondary categories and the chapter’s service projects, including fundraising to build a well in Munini, Africa, and local volunteer work at a retirement facility and school events.
Board members praised the students’ communication skills and leadership. Gail, a board member, asked whether students planned to pursue related careers; students said the experience helped them explore career options such as graphic design and engineering. The presentation concluded with the board thanking the students and inviting an update next year.
